Violations Increase In Turkey

All American, especially Turkish Americans, should condemn the human rights violations in Turkey under the current President  Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.  The U.S. State Department released its 2016 annual report : "Human Rights in Turkey".   The report identifies the most significant human rights problems.  Here are the top four concerns:

1) Inconsistent access to due process: State of emergencies called due to the allowed suspension of some due process protections for terrorist group suspects.

2) Government interference with freedom of expression: The governments new restriction include freedom of expression, media or internet.  These restrictions intensify the pressure of media to release these new limitations.

3) Inadequate protection of civilians.

4) Overcrowded prisons: compounded by the influx of tens of thousands of new prisoners after the coup attempt.
